May – August 2018
MARK THE DATE for our regular monthly gathering:
Our second Mullum Community Garden “Gathering” is set for Saturday 26th
Starting at 10am we will all share in a simple gardening task and a few
laughs – last month we made a straw bale garden – this month we will
plant a mix of flower and vegie seedlings in our raised garden beds.
Then at 11, Kaye Groves will share her experience with a short workshop
on the “Magic of Biodynamic Fertilisers”.
We can eat a delicious light lunch together and get to know our fellow
members, allotment holders and volunteers.
Everyone is welcome – bring your friends and family. We are open to all
ages and abilities.
For details contact Sasha on 0422 641 474
Join fellow gardening lovers on Saturday June 30th at the beautiful Mullumbimby Community Garden to garden together, learn about Worm farms with Mello Edwards and share a meal together.
Members are free and visitors by donation – $10/$5 full/concession. (you can join as a member on the day.)
Gardening together from 10am followed by Mellow’s demonstration from 11 and lunch at 12pm.
Come and keep warm in July and help us try and make the
BIGGEST HOT COMPOST HEAP IN THE WORLD with local horticulturist Diane Hart. Get all of her HOT TIPS on how to make it – what to put in and what to leave out and how to turn waste into wonder.
We need as many people as we can get to bring their GREEN WASTE and help turn lovely loads of RUBBISH into BLACK GOLD. The soil is already saying THANK YOU.
EVERY SINGLE DAY tons of valuable organic material are thrown away by households and food outlets in Byron Shire – which then goes to the tip. So let’s start collecting it and HOT COMPOST it into something useful.
WE NEED YOU TO BRING lots of bags, boxes and bins full of:
Horse manure, stable and chook pen sweepings.
Lawn clippings ( not sprayed)
Food scraps (no more than 3 days old please and no meat, fish or dairy)
Coffee grounds (café’s are happy for you to collect if you take them a bucket – Australians throw away 3,000 tons each year!)
Juicing pulp from café’s (same, take them a bucket and collect)
Comfrey and lemon grass prunings
Hair from hairdressers (clean waste please)
YOUR COMMUNITY GARDEN NEEDS YOU
WE’VE GOT THE SPACE, NOW WE JUST NEED YOU!!
It’s time for Mullum Community Garden’s end of the month “Gathering”
– Come and meet with your fellow gardeners.
This month we will be learning about enhancing soil fertility with Kaye, our Biodynamics expert and then we will share in a delicious light meal from the garden.
All Welcome. Members and kids are free, visitors are asked for $10/$5 concession to help cover costs. (Of course they are welcome to join as a member on the day!!)
Hope your can make it.
We all know that the kitchen is the heart of the home.
The Harvest Community Kitchen can be the heart of the Mullum Community Garden too.
.We need to upgrade our kitchen facilities at the garden, and our recent survey and feasability study have identified community support to expand the cooking activities at the garden. We could do:
- “plot to plate” cooking classes,
- preserving workshops,
- hospitality training,
- expand our lunch program,
- Friday night dinners with a multi cultural focus,
- fundraising activities including a catering service,
and how about having coffee at the garden while your kids play in the Children’s Garden?
The possibilities are amazing.
If you are interested in supporting this project or learning more please come along to the meeting on
Saturday 25th August at 2pm (after the Gathering”).
