MCG Weekly Update 27 May- June 3
Dear Friends of Mullum Gardens,
Here’s you’re somewhat belated weekly update, apologies. Please note I will make a concerted effort to get these emails out on THURSDAY nights for the following week. Content deadline is WEDNESDAYS 5pm for the following week. The next email will be for the entire MONTH of June ( going out this Thurs) so please forward content, announcements, workshops, meetings etc to firstname.lastname@example.org. For events that need ongoing promotion in advance, please make this clear in your email request. Thanks, Anneke 🙂
In Stephen Ritz’s class in the Bronx, edible greens are growing up the wall, the kids are teaching each other to grow food on rooftops, and even serving the cafeteria and selling to the community. This is one of the most passionate presentations on Nextworldtv, an example of a radical shift underway in one of the poorest congressional districts in the US.

Permaculture chook update- Sharon Gibson
The chooks in the permaculture backyard would welcome any scraps from members compost! They have been busy scratching, weeding, fertilising and feasting on bugs in the banana circle garden for 6 months and have now been moved nearby where they are clearing a future planting site. If you have any food scraps, or if you are weeding your plots please throw over the fence into the chook yard. (please no egg shells, nut grass or madeira vine!) Just check the sign on the fence as from time to time we will move the girls and we will stop throwing materials in for a week before we move them on to the next site

Saturday June 15th, 2013
Following the success of Mullumbimby Community Garden’s Living Soil Living
Future Forum in March when seventy people braved the floods and torrential
rain to learn about composting and soil fertility, our winter session will
hopefully be drier, equally informative and entertaining.
The day will commence at noon with a composting workshop with our
Permaculture guru, Sharon Gibson.
At 3pm our key note speaker, Phil Dudman (ABC radio’s Saturday morning
Gardening presenter) topic will be “The Lazy way to increasing Soil
Fertility – Let nature do the work”.
Phil understands the constraints our busy lifestyles and he wishes to share
his vast experience and to help bring success and enjoyment to your winter
People are also invited to bring their gardening questions to present to
Phil and our panel of local experts who will share their passion and
knowledge to answer issues such as “What can I grow in winter? and “How do I
prune my fruit trees?”.
This forum will be held on Saturday June 15th, 2013 at the Mullumbimby
Community Garden, at the southern end of Stuart Street.
Entry is by donation and hot food and drinks will be available at the Mullum
Community Market and also on site.
